Grower Grit Level

Not all plants are created equal. Some are chill. Others will test your patience and your soul. Here’s how we rank the fight each plant puts up when you’re just trying to keep it alive.

What It Means:

Grower Grit Level tells you how demanding a plant is. Think of it like a toughness meter. The higher the grit level, the more dialed-in you’ll need to be with your care game.

Plant Noob:

Chill and forgiving. Hard to kill unless you try.
Perfect for beginners or folks who occasionally forget their plants exist. Survives dry spells, bad lighting, and mild chaos

Weekend Warrior:

Needs some attention. Ignore it too long, and it’ll flip on you.
You don’t need a horticulture degree, but don’t wing it either. This tier does best with a little structure.

Plant Trained:

Demands technique. Get your soil game and light setup tight.
These plants know what they want and don’t tolerate half-measures. You’ll need decent tools and some discipline.

Plant King/Queen:

Royal-level difficulty. No shortcuts, no mercy. This plant only thrives under expert rule.
This is the elite tier. Precision watering, perfect humidity, specialized soil — if you miss, it dies.

Ready to Level Up??

Our Grower Grit Level is part of every care guide we write — it helps you know what you’re getting into before you bring a plant home. Pair your grit level with the right soil to give your plant its best shot. No miracles — just better odds.
